Just below, a waterway map of the Amazon Basin, prepared by the Ministry of Transport of Brazil. The Amazon is a moist broadleaf forest that covers most of the Amazon Basin in South America. This basin encompasses 7,000,000 $km^2$ (square kilometers), of which 5,500,000 $km^2$ are covered by rainforest. This region includes territories belonging to nine nations. The majority of the forest is contained within Brazil, with 60% of the forest, followed by Peru with 13%, and smaller portions in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. The states, provinces, or departments of four neighboring nations of Brazil are named "Amazonas" for this reason. Also ...
